MUSICAL CHAIRS AS COMMONS
Is the tragedy of the commons really inevitable?
We’re often taught that when resources become scarce, competition takes over: there’s never enough to go around, and someone is always left standing. But communities around the world have shown that shared resources can be managed differently.
Musical Chairs as Commons: The Resource Challenge, facilitated by Evgenia Tsianou, turns a familiar childhood game into a live experiment in cooperative resource management.
Participants will play musical chairs twice—first by the rules we all know, then with a twist that changes how the group responds to a shrinking resource. From there, the workshop will explore real-world models of community-led water, energy, and land management and ask what they can teach us about cooperation in the face of climate change.
