Understanding the Swiss Energy Strategy… through a Video Game
Our researchers at the Università della Svizzera Italiana (USI), the Universität Bern have developed Ensured Energy, a game that lets players explore Switzerland’s energy transition in an interactive way. According to Prof. Michael Multerer, the game goes beyond traditional simulation: it served as a large-scale behavioral laboratory, linking in-game decisions to attitudes and sociodemographic characteristics. This allows researchers to study how participants respond to policy changes and energy shocks, while also fostering a sense of individual and societal agency in the energy transition.
The game’s mechanics let non-experts engage with realistic trade-offs in energy decision-making, providing a hands-on understanding of complex challenges. The full article is available in Italian, and the game can be played online at www.sweet-sure.ch/game.
