This report presents two visualization approaches for heat grid planning results, developed in a previous SURE deliverable. First, an interactive web tool is introduced to showcase selected outputs of the heat grid planning tool GridPLAN. Users can adjust key parameters, such as heat demand, pipeline costs, and temperature spread, to view the resulting grid costs and an interactive map of the grid topology.
Secondly, the visualization and considerations of the “Street Routing” heat grid algorithm are introduced. The visualization strategies adapt to various audiences and stages, including debugging, presentations, and scenario analysis, using tools like QGIS, Leaflet, and FASTAPI for dynamic and automated visualizations. Automation and contextual data integration enhance accuracy, efficiency, and usability, supporting scenario comparisons and algorithm development.
The key benefits of heat grid visualizations include improved communication of planning results to customers, inhabitants, stakeholders, and decision-makers, enhancing transparency and acceptance of the planning process. Within the SURE project, these visualizations enable more effective communication of the challenges in heat grid planning. The interactive visualization tools are currently being expanded to other projects of the research partners, with a focus on activities in other SURE work packages and related SWEET projects.
