Switzerland aims to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, with Cantons responsible for translating federal goals into regional policies that fit local capacities and gain public support. To aid this, policymakers need region-specific models aligned with national frameworks. The SURE Ticino (TI) case study in SURE addresses this by connecting the national SURE framework to the cantonal level and developing a tool for regional policymakers. The first report “Local stakeholder analysis and system mapping in SURE” outlined methods involving collaboration with local stakeholders to co-create an energy system model for testing policies. This report updates progress, detailing stakeholder workshops, the development of the cantonal Socio Technical Energy Transition (STET) model, and preliminary policy testing results. These results are intermediate and demonstrate the model’s capabilities. The next phase will refine the model through further stakeholder engagement and alignment with national SURE scenarios.
