SURE at SSH Energy 2025: Exploring Serious Games and Transdisciplinary Impact

At the 5th Swiss Social Sciences and Humanities Energy Research Workshop (SSH Energy 2025), SURE actively contributed to the conversation on integrating social sciences and humanities into Switzerland’s energy transition.
Gracia Brückmann led a hands-on workshop titled How to Use Serious Games in Transdisciplinary Energy Research?, built around SURE’s interactive simulation game, ENSURED. Participants explored how game-based methods can foster engagement across disciplines and with societal actors. Through ENSURED, they stepped into the role of energy decision-makers, navigating real-world challenges—like energy shortages and climate extremes—while shaping Switzerland’s energy future toward 2050.
Additionally, Evgenia Tsianou presented a poster outlining SURE’s ongoing efforts in Refining SURE’s Impact Model. This work-in-progress highlights the importance of inter- and transdisciplinary approaches in aligning research with societal values and achieving transformative change.
SSH Energy 2025, framed within the CoSi project of the SWEET programme, provided a vital platform for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to discuss integration, participation, and value-driven approaches in energy research. SURE was proud to contribute to this dialogue—and to continue building bridges toward a sustainable energy transition.
